Yes. HealthSpring Extra Rx ends December 31, 2026 in Ohio, and HealthSpring Assurance Rx moves to a new contract with a premium of $15.70 a month (down from $109.50) and a $700 deductible (up from $615), according to the CMS 2027 plan crosswalk and the CMS CY2027 landscape for Ohio's Part D region.
This applies to stand-alone Part D (PDP) members in Ohio, which is Part D region 14. Assurance Rx members are moved automatically. Extra Rx members are not moved and must choose a new drug plan.
How it works: what happens to each plan
CMS lists the 2027 Assurance Rx plan under a new contract, S5715, sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of IL, NM, OK, TX. In plain terms: the plan name stays, but the company running it changes, so read its Annual Notice of Change closely.
| 2026 plan (ID) | 2027 status (CMS) | Monthly premium 2026 → 2027 | Deductible 2026 → 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| HealthSpring Assurance Rx (S5617-068) | Renewal into S5715-035 | $109.50 → $15.70 | $615 → $700 |
| HealthSpring Extra Rx (S5617-364) | Terminated, ends Dec 31, 2026 | $65.70 → none | $615 → none |

What it changes: costs for 2027
Across Ohio, stand-alone drug plans drop from 10 in 2026 to 9 in 2027, none has a $0 base premium, meaning the price before Extra Help (one did in 2026), and the average deductible rises from $503.60 to $615.22, per the same CMS landscape files.
For 2027 the most any Part D plan can charge as a deductible is $700, and your yearly out-of-pocket cost for covered drugs is capped at $2,400 (up from $2,100), under the CMS CY2027 Rate Announcement.
A lower premium does not always mean a lower total cost. A new contract can come with a different drug list, tiers and preferred pharmacies, so check each prescription in the 2027 plan, not just the premium.
Kris’s own warning, from her Medicare FAQ, on missing a window: “In addition to having a huge gap in coverage, you will likely face a penalty from Medicare.” Extra Rx members who do nothing have no drug plan on January 1, 2027, unless they get Extra Help (Medicare generally assigns those members a new plan). Because Extra Rx was not renewed, you also have a Special Enrollment Period from December 8, 2026 to the last day of February 2027. Going 63 days or more without creditable drug coverage can add a late enrollment penalty for life (there are exceptions to this). Kris’s plain definition, from her Medicare FAQ: creditable coverage is “previous coverage being at least as good as Medicare’s. Typically is in play for Part D to avoid penalty.”
What to do next
Send Kris your drug list with doses and your pharmacy. She checks the 2027 drug plans she represents for your total yearly cost and enrolls you by December 7, 2026 so coverage starts January 1. HealthSpring is one of the Part D carriers she represents.
